The design of a gravity-flow water system in a remote community in Chiapas, Mexico.
Open Practice Architecture has an ongoing interest in supporting NGOs in Latin America through the introduction of clean water systems and sustainable technologies.
Gravity-flow water systems use an existing source, typically a stream or a spring, within 3 kilometres of the community. The water is channelled into the ‘Captation Tank’ which feeds the mainline to the ‘Reservoir Tank’ built at a high point within the village.
A distribution network is then designed to take fresh clean water to every house in the community, helping prevent the spread of Water Borne Diseases.
