Design for a new family home with views to the River Camel estuary below. Common to this part of Cornwall, old 'dry slate’ walls are distributed across the site giving hints of ancient structures and boundaries. The new design introduces a slate spine wall off which the house is set. The building follows the contours of the site downward and is divided into two perpendicular forms, clad with blackened larch. The openings are chosen to frame the views and allow natural light to move through the house during the day.
