Obtaining planning permission involves a careful balance of architectural design whilst ensuring site constraints, limitations and relevant planning policy are all addressed.

We begin by asking straightforward and practical questions. By identifying obstacles early, such as access issues or Tree Protection Orders, we avoid developing designs that cannot be realised.

Working with our consultant partners, we provide regular updates as to the likelihood of obtaining planning permission in the form of a planning temperature check so that we can identify potential issues before drawing up a redundant design.

In most cases, a pre-planning application is needed. We find a physical model to accompany the drawings often leads to the best discussion. At this stage, we will also learn which specialist reports will be required for the application.

Sustainability is paramount to our practice and something that we actively research through all aspects of the process, from building longevity and embodied energy to green technologies and energy consumption.  Increasingly green concerns also form a key part of the council’s decision-making process.
